Hibiscus Pomegranate Kombucha Sparkler

December 21, 2016 Brooke Lark

Two cocktails posted back to back. What will the neighbors think?

Well, I'll tell you.

The neighbors think: hell yeah. Because they get to party it up after work at our place. Sippin' on trial batches of kombucha. Downing tea-infused kegs of beer.

You really haven't lived until you've lived next to a food blogger in SLC, Utah.

I've been whipping up big, glorious batches of trial cocktails this week because my main man Yordan turns 40-sumthin' ON CHRISTMAS DAY.

Yes, indeedy. He is a Christmas child if ever there was one. A bike-loving, middle-aged Scandinavian toting a mohawk and wearing Euro cut skinny jeans around town. So, pretty much what you think of when you think of a Christmas child.

To ensure Christmas day also feels like his BIRTHDAY, we always invite a tribe of Jordan-loving humans over to celebrate on the evening of the 25th.

We gather 'round the kitchen island. Everyone pink cheeked and snowburned from a day on the slopes. Tacos on fleek and drinks on tap. It's always a fine way to finish off the holiday.

And since half of the squad is cross-fit loving, keto-eating, Tim Ferriss-loving, Sprinter-driving mod-sauce nutrition cats, I figured I could sneak 8x more booze into their systems if I just stirred it together with kombucha.

Thankfully, kombucha makes a killer cocktail mixer. Add a bit of fruit juice for sweetness and a shot of vodka or whiskey, and you've got a quick handcrafted cocktail with complex flavor notes and a kiss of fizz.

We'll be serving up a batch on Sunday. So strange, the Christmas child said he didn't want frankincense or myrrh. Just tacos and kombucha cocktails. Which sounds a helluva lot easier to find. And tasty AF, too.

At least, that's what the neighbors tell me.

Hibiscus Pomegranate Kombucha Sparkler

Serves 1 | 5 mins prep

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1 1/2 oz pomegranate juice
  • 3 oz hibiscus kombucha
  • 1 lime, freshly squeezed
  • rosemary
  • cranberries

Pour all vodka, pom juice, kombucha and lime juice into a highball glass filled with ice. Garnish with rosemary and cranberries.

Make it a punch: Serving a whole party of people? Add 2 cups of vodka, 2-3 cups of pom juice and 2 liters of gingerale to a punchbowl. Add dry ice or crushed ice. Garnish with cranberries and rosemary.
